Building Community
Capitalism is an enemy of community.
By that I mean capitalism perpetuates individualism and the separation of class, race, ability, etc. Its agenda is to give power to the wealthy and give scraps to the LIVES that keep the damn system going. I am sure I do not have to elaborate on that any further but the point of this spill is to get y’all to acknowledge that nothing can be accomplished alone. Reread that babe. Building community is important for Black people and People of color periodt.
Offering your neighbor a hand with their groceries, hosting a community event at a local park, or even babysitting for a friend. Be there and show up. Spirit has been urging this message in many ways and forms. Creating a community of people that are supportive of one another but also of other communities, that holds power that no one can take away. The capitalists fear people coming together. Talk about your wages. Talk about your pain. Talk about your last hookup. You get me? Put yourselves out there for others and you will be rewarded. Most importantly, only take what you need and offer only what you can give. This is not about forcing a relationship with others for your own benefit but sincerely building relationships with people around you.
In *most* of our lives we know friends and family that grew up in some of the most unfortunate ways, so please reach out and build community. It is so important y’all. With the recent events taking place I know everyone has SOMETHING going on-- I barely want to step outside to get groceries with all of these horrifying deaths and missing individuals but building community can happen over the phone, in the dms... wherever and whenever you decide.
Another part of building community is to connect with your roots! This certainly will not look the same for everyone but part of decolonizing our minds is to connect with your people. You could build an altar (I recommend A Little JuJu Podcast on Spotify), get baptized, or even learn some words and phrases of a different language. You could possibly meet new people and have some amazing experiences as a result! Tap in to your lineage and see what blessings are out there waiting for you.
